Featured Start-up: SynkMonkey

As mentioned, our blog will be a place where you can read about the most desired start-ups, and unbeatable deals worth a second look. With no further ado, I would like to announce SynkMonkey as our very first featured start-up. As a new owner of an iPhone myself, I found this app not only to be visually appealing, but very functional and easy to use. During this past week, I was able to sit down and find out some more information about SynkMonkey from the owner himself, Hunter Murchison.
What allows SynkMonkey to standout?
“When we designed SynkMonkey we had two main focuses; we wanted it to feel like a text message and we wanted to focus on features that are actually useful to people and not just “cool”. It was a very practical approach, but one that we feel will deliver the most value to our users. We think the unique combination of calendar syncing, mapping, and group messaging really make a very powerful app that is different than anything out there.”
What’s the main problem you’re solving?
“We hate the inefficiency around the act of making plans with and organizing people these days. People are so connected through so many devices and communication tools that we have all become flaky and needy when making plans. People send constant emails, texts, and phone calls back and forth and then you still have to rely on them to be organized enough to put something in their calendar, be on time, and not get lost. We wanted to make everyone’s life easier by creating this tool that allows you to be decisive, make a plan, and then automatically have everyone organized so you don’t have to worry about it.”
Biggest obstacle you’ve faced and have had to overcome as a start-up?
“Like many other mobile apps, our biggest obstacle has just been dealing with the discoverability problems in the app store. With so many apps, unless you are an instant viral hit or have a massive marketing budget, it is hard to break through all of the clutter. We are working through that through grass roots marketing and by leveraging our loyal user base.”
Plans for the future, something we can expect to see soon?
“We have lots of plans for the future. We definitely took the MVP approach to development, so we are constantly trying to get customer feedback and modify the app to make it more useful. Eventually we will start incorporating our features that will allow our users to start saving money based on what they are planning to do.”
Any advice to fellow entrepreneurs?
“There is so much good stuff you can read out there on the web on various blogs that I think no entrepreneur should have to make a haphazard business decision. Trust your gut to a certain extent but verify what you are doing with people who have done it before you. As they say, there is no need to reinvent the wheel.”
